When we decided to create an institutional mascot, we knew it couldn’t be just a simple drawing. It had to be an emblem that represented our community, that accompanied our students on their journey, and that reflected the values that define us.
That’s how Sabi was born.
🐯 The Inspiration: The SABER-Toothed Tiger
It all started with a question: what animal could truly represent the essence of SABER College?
We explored several options, but one caught our attention in particular: the SABER-toothed tiger. A legendary species that knew how to adapt, survive, and stand out in a changing environment.
That is exactly the story of our students. Many arrive in the United States with a dream, leaving behind their country, their culture, and their comfort zone. They face challenges, learn a new language, and build a career from scratch. They are people who, like the SABER-toothed tiger, turn every obstacle into an opportunity.
We wanted our mascot to represent that strength. And there we found the perfect inspiration.
✏️ The Creative Process: From Idea to Symbol
Designing Sabi was not a one-day job. It was a process full of meaning.
We started with sketches, exploring different expressions, postures, and styles. We wanted him to convey closeness, but also determination. To be friendly, yet with a look that reflects character.
Every line was designed to connect with our student community. Sabi is not an aggressive tiger: he is a companion. A tiger that walks by your side, that reminds you that you are stronger than you think, and that every step matters.
The final result combines the fierceness of the tiger with a warm and curious expression. Because at SABER College, we believe that curiosity is the engine of learning. Hence our motto: Curious Minds.
✨ Why “Sabi”?
The name also has a story.
We wanted a short name, easy to remember, and with deep meaning. Sabi evokes the word saber (to know), which represents knowledge and learning. It is also naturally and organically connected to SABER College.
But beyond that, Sabi sounds like a friendly voice. It is warm, close, and full of character. It’s the kind of name that invites you to come closer and discover more.
And if you think about it, Sabi also carries the idea of wisdom — the wisdom built step by step, with effort and dedication. Exactly what our community represents.
