Registered Nurses make a difference in hospitals and clinics across the world. RNs work alongside doctors and bring care to patients in every life stage. The field of nursing is also growing with more openings for nurses becoming available over the next decade. Are you thinking about becoming a nurse? Follow these 3 steps to becoming a nurse!

1. Apply to a nursing program

Registered Nurses must meet education and training requirements before the state of Florida will issue a nursing license. SABER College offers a fully-accredited Professional Nursing Program (PNP) that covers career skills, medical knowledge, and practical nursing skills. You will learn what you need to know to become an RN.

To apply to SABER College, you will need to have either a high school diploma or a GED. Applicants also need to take the Kaplan exam to show college readiness. ACT, SAT, or HESI A2 Exam with passing scores are also acceptable. High school/GED transcripts are required as well.

Then, applicants must do an oral and written interview with the Program Team. Applicants will need to submit an application for the program, one letter of recommendation, undergo a background check, and submit proof of CPR certification from the American Heart Association.

2. Graduate from the Professional Nursing Program

The next step to becoming a Registered Nurse is graduating from the Professional Nursing Program (PNP). In 82 college credits hours (or 1,875 clock hours), you will gain the knowledge and skills you need for becoming an RN.

Courses in English composition, mathematics, and sciences prepare students for lifelong career skills. Nursing core courses cover the theory and practice behind the nursing field. The skills that you learn prepare you to work with patients at each life stage and in many different medical settings.

3. Pass the NCLEX-RN

Before you begin working as a Registered Nurse, you will need to take and pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). Passing the exam is required to obtain licensing for RN in Florida.

The PNP at SABER College prepares you to take the NCLEX-RN. You will also meet the eligibility requirements for registering for the exam. Then you can begin applying for nursing jobs.
