SABER College Launches Associate of Science in Medical Assisting
Start Date:
October 20 | Hands-On Training | Career-Focused Curriculum
SABER College is proud to announce the launch of its newest degree program: the Associate of Science in Medical Assisting. This innovative program is designed to prepare students for in-demand careers in the healthcare field—with a blend of academic instruction, hands-on training, and real-world experience.
With Florida’s healthcare sector expanding rapidly, medical assistants are playing an increasingly vital role in hospitals, clinics, and physician offices. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the demand for medical assistants is expected to grow 15% through 2033, making this a high-opportunity career path.
Flexible Learning with Real-World Experience
What makes this program stand out? It’s hybrid. Students complete their first semester online, followed by on-campus lab work and a 180-hour externship with a local healthcare provider. This format allows students to balance personal responsibilities while gaining critical hands-on experience.
“The Medical Assisting program offers a direct pathway to a meaningful healthcare career,” said Josefina Bonet, CEO of SABER College. “It’s a well-rounded program that combines convenience, quality, and a deep commitment to patient-centered care.”
What You’ll Learn
The curriculum is designed to give students the skills they need to succeed in both the front and back office of a healthcare facility. Topics include:
- Anatomy, Physiology, and Medical Terminology
- Pharmacology and Microbiology
- Electronic Health Records (EHR)
- Phlebotomy, EKG, and Diagnostic Testing
- Infection Control and Patient Care
- Medical Billing, Coding, and Office Procedures
- HIPAA Compliance and Insurance Verification
“We train our students to be organized, empathetic, and job-ready,” said Pavel S. Pugh Alvarez, DNP, APRN, PMHNP-C, FNP-C, CNE, FEP, Director of Nursing and Health Sciences. “They graduate with real skills and the confidence to use them.”
Career Outcomes
Graduates of SABER College’s Associate of Science in Medical Assisting program are equipped with the skills, confidence, and professionalism needed to succeed in today’s fast-paced healthcare environment. Upon completion, students are prepared to step into a variety of entry-level roles, including:
-
Medical Assistant
-
Clinical Support Specialist
-
Phlebotomist
-
Lab Technician
-
Medical Office Assistant
These roles are essential to the smooth operation of clinics, physician offices, urgent care centers, and hospitals. Our curriculum blends clinical and administrative training, giving graduates the flexibility to work at the front desk, in exam rooms, or within specialized departments.
Beyond immediate employment, many graduates use their medical assisting foundation as a springboard into more advanced areas of healthcare. Whether pursuing nursing, pediatrics, cardiology, or public health, our students leave SABER with both the practical skills and the academic mindset to continue their professional journey.
At SABER College, we don’t just prepare students for jobs—we help them launch meaningful, life-changing careers in healthcare.
